The APA values the contribution of excellent teachers in all levels of medical education. The APA/NIMH Vestermark Psychiatry Teaching Award is the most prestigious award the APA bestows to an educator. This award recognizes excellence, leadership and creativity in the field of psychiatric education. The awardee is invited to present a lecture at the APA meeting.The Nancy Roeske Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Medical Student Education gives certificates to teachers of medical students. The Irma Bland Award for Excellence in Teaching Residents gives certificates to teachers of residents. Recipients of these two awards are nominated by their respective Departments of Psychiatry.
