APA Foundation Launches “Mentally Healthy Nation” National PSA Campaign
Washington D.C, Sept. 28, 2022 — The American Psychiatric Association Foundation (APAF) today launched its new "Mentally Healthy Nation" national radio public service announcement (PSA) campaign. The PSAs, offered in both English and Spanish, will raise awareness about the nationwide mental health crisis following the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We can't say it loud or often enough: There is no health without mental health," said APA CEO and Medical Director and APAF Board Chair Saul Levin, M.D., M.P.A. "The American Psychiatric Association Foundation will deliver this message on the airwaves to millions of Americans in English and Spanish, and hopefully, share facts that will change attitudes and behaviors."
"The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated an unprecedented mental health crisis in our country," said Rawle Andrews, Jr., Esq., APAF Executive Director. "One in five Americans experiences emotional and mental health challenges. With this campaign, we want to get the word out that help is available, and that the APAF is working every day to eliminate stigma, improve medical science, and enhance public education, with an emphasis on personalized treatment and compassion."
The Mentally Healthy Nation campaign includes six PSAs in English and Spanish. The English PSAs encourage listeners to visit mentallyhealthynation.org to learn more. The Spanish PSAs direct listeners to La Salud Mental, the American Psychiatric Association's (APA) Spanish-language hub for evidence-based resources on mental health and substance use disorders.
