Washington, D.C.—American Psychiatric Association (APA) Publishing recently released books on a wide range of topics, from psychodermatology to transcranial magnetic stimulation and studying the DSM-5-TR®.

The new titles are primarily intended for use by psychiatrists, psychiatric residents and medical students, social workers, and other behavioral health and mental health professionals.

New titles include:

  • Treating Addiction to Tobacco and Nicotine Products,” authored by Jill M. Williams, M.D., and Jonathan Foulds, Ph.D., synthesizes the latest research and literature to provide a comprehensive overview of the assessment and treatment of tobacco use disorder. The authors discuss trends in cigarette smoking and its associated harms, behavioral and pharmacological interventions for tobacco use disorder, and the need for systems change in health care settings.
  • Conditions at the interface of psychiatry and dermatology, such as psoriasis or alopecia atesta, are examined in “Clinical Psychodermatology: A Casebook,” edited by Mohammad Jafferany, M.D., and Asmahane Souissi, M.D. The guide discusses nearly 50 real-world case reports of psychodermatological disorders sourced from around the world and includes clinical photographs to augment readers’ comprehension.
  • Study Guide to DSM-5-TR®” is the ultimate companion volume to the DSM-5-TR®, providing context for the diagnoses with detailed cases. Edited by Laura Weiss Roberts, M.D., M.A., Alan K. Louie, M.D., and Matthew L. Edwards, M.D., the guide takes a patient-centered approach to complement the more disorder-centered organizations of the DSM-5-TR®. It includes over 100 multiple choice questions and an answer key.
  • Learning DSM-5-TR® by Case Example,” by Michael B. First, M.D., and Andrew E. Skodol, M.D., was designed to familiarize undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students in psychology, psychiatry, social work, counseling, and psychiatric nursing with the diagnosis of psychopathology. Each chapter contains an overview of the manifestation of the various diagnoses in the corresponding disorder class, a table summarizing key characteristics of each individual disorder, and comprehensive sections on the individual diagnoses. The title includes at least one case for each mental disorder listed in the DSM-5-TR®.
  • Current research and clinical vignettes are combined in “Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: Clinical Applications for Psychiatric Practice, Second Edition,” edited by Richard A. Bermudes, M.D., Karl I. Lanocha, M.D., and Philip G. Janicak, M.D. The title provides detailed exploration of the latest applications of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), guidance on integrating psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy with TMS, and new chapters on the use of TMS for obsessive-compulsive disorder.
  • Bridge the gap between research and practical application with the “DSM-5-TR® Casebook and Treatment Guide for Child Mental Health,” edited by Cathryn A. Galanter, M.D., and Peter S. Jensen, M.D. In this volume, a roster of more than 120 field-leading contributors lent their expertise to 28 case studies, corresponding to four categories: classic cases (such as ADHD and anorexia), comorbid complexities (children with multiple disorders or adolescents who have misused prescription medications), toughest cases (like nonsuicidal self-injury), and kids in crisis (young patients with psychopathology in the context of extreme psychosocial stressors).
