Melvin Sabshin, M.D. Library & Archives
In 2018, the American Psychiatric Association moved into its new headquarters in Washington D.C.'s Southwest Waterfront neighborhood. As part of the move, a unique space was created for the Melvin Sabshin, M.D. Library & Archives, run by the APA Foundation. The collection includes around 1,700 rare books, 200 artifacts, and 550 photographs and oral histories documenting the history of psychiatry and the APA. The Library & Archives are open to scheduled visits by members and the public. To make this history more accessible, the APA Foundation began development of a website, legacy.psychiatry.org, to house featured collections, psychiatric and APA history, photo galleries, and digital versions of mural walls found in APA's offices celebrating the profession. Documents and galleries continue to be added and updated on this site.
