Learn About Technology Advancements in Mental Health at the 2024 APA Annual Meeting
The Mental Health Innovation Zone (MHIZ) at the APA 2024 Annual Meeting will be the premier location to learn more about technology advancements related to mental health. From Saturday, May 4, through Tuesday, May 7, MHIZ will feature a variety of panel and sponsored discussions that will highlight new tools and resources that are fostered by advancements in technology. The discussions will provide tactical skills and insight on others experiences to inform the audience on how to use ChatGPT, ways to launch a start-up, AI integrations and more. In addition to the expert led panel discussions, the MHIZ stage will host the MindGames resident’s competition, MindGames Masters, and the Psychiatry Innovation Lab.
The traditional MindGames event for residents returns to allow three residency teams the opportunity to assess their knowledge on patient care, medical knowledge, and psychiatric history while earning bragging rights for their program. Each team is compiled of three residents who collectively complete a pre-qualifying exam. The top three teams will be selected based on their score and invited to participate in the live event in New York. The teams will compete on the MHIZ stage on Sunday, May 5. Don't miss the opportunity to view the exciting jeopardy style competition and root for your favorite team.
This year, MindGames Masters is being introduced to allow experienced psychiatrists the opportunity to showcase their knowledge on five subspecialties. The inaugural MindGames Masters: Subspecialty Review for the General Psychiatrist is a three-part educational experience that focuses on Geriatric Psychiatry, Addictions Psychiatry, Forensics Psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
The event entails a self-assessment based on the subspecialties; the assessment scores will be used to identify the top three scoring participants who will be invited to compete in the on-stage jeopardy style event at the Annual Meeting in New York on Monday, May 6. The 100 question self-assessment will be open from February 19 through March 15 for those who want to be considered for the on-stage event. In addition to the assessment and live competition, registrants will also have the opportunity to attend a 4-hour course on Sunday, May 5, to further review the subspecialties with an expert led group of presenters. Registrants who do not wish to participate in the on-stage event will have access to the assessment until December 31, 2024, and the ability to join the expert led course.
To learn more about emerging technologies in mental health care, attend the Psychiatry Innovation Lab (PIL). The PIL event is led by the APA Innovation Committee to showcase and fund advancing companies who specialize in technology and mental health care. The committee is accepting pitch submissions until March 1 to identify innovative products and services. Based on the submissions, a select group of advancing organizations with a focus on technology and healthcare will be invited to pitch their ideas in front of a panel of judges and live audience to compete for funding on Tuesday, May 7. The top two contestants will be awarded the Most Promising Innovation and Audience Choice.
In addition to the exciting on-stage events, MHIZ will offer the opportunity to directly connect with companies who are leading innovations in mental health care. The space will allow attendees to view demonstrations of new products, ideas, and methods in technology. MHIZ offers a variety of exciting learning experiences and insight on emerging mental health care advancements.
