Welcome to New Orleans for the 2022 APA Annual Meeting!
Whether you have been stuck in a makeshift home telepsychiatry office or the trenches of a pandemic protocolized hospital system, please join us to reconnect, reflect, and revitalize after a 3-year break!
The Annual Meeting is a terrific opportunity to get those CME credits by delving into over 300 sessions and 1,000 posters spanning 50+ topics in a city offers a unique setting offering history, diversity, entertainment, music galore, and mouth-watering restaurants! This year’s meeting theme, Social Determinants of Mental Health is particularly timely given the pandemic and other events of the past few years that remind us about the need to advocate for our patients’ needs at all levels. Don’t miss our plenary sessions that include Anton Gunn, former senior adviser to Barack Obama, and a chat between Dr. Sarah Vinson and Harvard economist, Dr. Peter Blair, focusing on our annual meeting theme.
A new track offered at this year’s meeting is Clinical Updates that focuses on up-to-date and evidence-based information aimed at providing attendees with the practical tools and knowledge they can apply to the care of their patients. Carefully developed by the SPC, renowned experts will provide talks on a number of important clinical topics including mood and anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, as well as sleep, eating, sexual, and neurocognitive disorders. Our hope is to offer a compact, user-friendly, and efficient way to become current. We are also offering a mini-track on psychiatry, arts, and the humanities this year, to remind us about different approaches to learning and expanding one’s mind. Dr. Paul Haidet, nationally recognized director of medical education research at Penn State, uses jazz as a means of exploring communication between physicians and patients. Drs. Frank Clark, Josepha Cheong, and Carlyle Chan will explore the intersection between arts, humanities, and psychiatry. Want another way of expanding your mind that is more science-based? Grasp a current understanding of the rationale, research, and role of psychedelics with Drs. Robin Carhart-Harris and Roland Griffiths, notable experts in this field.
There are many more notable speakers, stimulating presentations, and opportunities to connect at the 2022 Annual Meeting. Please join us as we reconnect with friends and colleagues, revitalize our minds and relationships, and stimulate reflection as well as action in New Orleans!
Laissez les bons temps rouler!
