Committee on Innovation

The Innovation Committee coordinates the Mental Health Innovation Zone (MHIZ) at the APA's Annual Meeting. MHIZ consists of 10-12 discussion panels on innovation in psychiatry led by experts in the industry. It also features the Psychiatry Innovation Lab, APA's shark-tank like competition, where aspiring entrepreneurs present their business ideas to a panel of expert psychiatrists, seeking funding (cash prize) and the chance to win a trophy.

Term

At least a one year committment.

Expected Time Commitment

The Committee meets twice per month; volunteers spend between two to five hours per month supporting the Committee's initiatives.

Desired Expertise

Volunteer leaders with experience in social media to promote MHIZ and PIL, and assist with updating the language on our webpages; as well as members with administrative and communication skills to help manage the invitations sent to speakers.

Responsibilities

  • Creating social media posts to attract speakers and attendees to MHIZ.
  • Drafting speaker invitations and track responses to invitations.
  • Helping configure the schedule and availability of confirmed speakers for panels.
