Healthy Minds Monthly Poll: Personal Finances Were Still a Major Source of Anxiety for Americans Leading Into 2024
In a poll fielded in December, most adults said they were anxious about their personal finances (59%) and the uncertainty in the new year (54%). More than one-third (38%) were anxious about their mental health—a trend consistent with prior year’s polling. Just under half (44%) of adults said they anticipate experiencing the same level of stress at the start of 2024 as they did at the start of 2023, while one in four said they expect more stress.

Rawle Andrews, Jr., Esq., has been named executive director of the American Psychiatric Association Foundation (APAF) effective September 27, 2021. Andrews comes to APAF from AARP, where he served for 15 years, most recently as vice president and a member of the national leadership team overseeing the organization’s field operations in the seven largest and most diverse states in the country, including the states of California, Florida, New York and Texas.

As painful as the process of grief can be, with support of family and friends, most people go through it without needing the help of a mental health professional. However, some experience severe, prolonged and disabling grief symptoms, referred to as complicated grief.
APA Elects Dr. Jeffrey Geller as President-Elect
The members of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) have chosen Jeffrey Geller, M.D., M.P.H., as the medical society’s next president-elect. The results were released today but are not official until the APA Board of Trustees confirms the election results at its March meeting.
