APA Praises CMS Action to Increase Telehealth Access via Phones
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) today praises action taken this week by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to increase access to telehealth for Americans who lack the required video technology or live in areas without reliable broadband access. The APA has pushed for this increased, audio-only access for patients who have older phones that do not have a camera or lack internet access.

New Research: E-Cigarette Content on Instagram Violates Policies, Is Marketed to Teens
New research presented today at the American Psychiatric Association’s Annual Meeting indicates that methods of advertising e-cigarettes on digital platforms are violating federal government and Instagram policies. The primary violations include omitting age-restricted content tags on Instagram and neglecting to address the addictive potential of e-cigarettes and other vaping products. Previous studies have found that exposure to e-cigarettes on social media is correlated with increased use.

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) today announced the 2020 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia will not take place in the wake of numerous travel restrictions and public health guidance associated with the pandemic spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). The meeting was scheduled for April 25-29. In lieu of the Annual Meeting, the APA will work with speakers to develop an online educational product this spring.
