Renowned Scholar to Give the William C. Menninger Memorial Lecture
The 69th Convocation of Distinguished Fellows is one of the highlights of the in-person 2025 APA Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, May 17-21. The convocation takes place on Monday, May 19, and it celebrates the achievements of dedicated APA members. Yet there is another big reason that this convocation is one you do not want to miss.
Capping off the convocation ceremonies is the William C. Menninger Memorial Lecture, and this year the speaker is Siddhartha Mukherjee, M.D., D.Phil. He is renowned as a physician leader, researcher, scholar, and author. And his experience across all those interests gives him an ideal perspective to share about the intersection of medical science and mental health.
Dr. Mukherjee serves as Associate Professor of Medicine at Columbia University and as an oncologist at the university’s medical center. His trilogy of books – The Song of the Cell, The Gene, and The Emperor of All Maladies – have made a vast contribution to the public discourse on human health, medicine, and science. In fact, they have won international awards and have even been adapted into PBS documentaries. As a medical scholar, his research has signaled a paradigm shift in cancer pathology and enabled new treatments that disrupt current pharmaceutical models toward new biological and cellular therapies. Dr. Mukherjee has been involved in making cellular therapies available in India and developing AI-based algorithms to discover medicine. His life and professional experiences include being a member of the National Academy of Medicine, a Rhodes Scholar, and a graduate of Harvard Medical School.
