Fellows are provided administrative support and a $12,500 stipend to develop a capstone project focused on mental health equity. Fellows work with their psychiatry residency training programs to develop and implement their projects. The aim of this project is to conduct research or have a direct impact on a fellow’s chosen population. Fellows have developed notable capstone projects including:
- Investigation of prolonged grief disorder among racial and ethnic minorities, particularly those with substance use disorders. - Amira Athanasios (MFP 2023 - 2024)
- Development of educational sessions to raise awareness about prevalent mental health issues among socioeconomically disadvantaged Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) youth in San Francisco. - Xialing Ann Chen (MFP 2023 - 2024)
- Exploring the intersection of social determinants, race, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and depression among cancer survivors - Dr. Oluwole Babatunde (MFP 2023 - 2024)
- Partnering with the Pascua Yaqui Health Services Division to develop and disseminate culturally sensitive materials about mental health awareness to help address and reduce mental health stigma within Indigenous communities. - Dr. Marcos Moreno (MFP 2023 - 2024)
This video features Dr. Marcos Moreno's (MFP 2023 - 2024) Capstone Project presentation. He goes in depth on his work partnering with the Pascua Yaqui Health Services Division. His work with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe is just one example of the excellent projects our fellows have produced, providing a great example of community engagement for future projects."
